She proceeded to tell me that her daughter, grandson and son in law were all killed in a house fire on November 12th. Her daughter was only 35 years old and her grandson would have been 5 years old on November 28th. Needless to say I have been so sad and devastated since that phone call. Most of my thoughts have turned to Elizabeth today as I think of all the moments we shared together today and that my friend will never have this opportunity with either her daughter or grandson again.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving and after receiving this "wake up" call today I have decided each day this week I will post here just what I am thankful for this year.
Sunday, Day 1-I am thankful for our daughter.
After over 3.5 years of waiting and hoping for a family, our dream came true in May, 2009 when we received the wonderful phone call that we had a daughter in China. I really don't think there are any other words to say about this. It is a miracle and truly a blessing. As I kiss my daughter good nite tonite, my thoughts turn to my friend and the deep pain and suffering she must be experiencing at this moment, which makes our gift of Elizabeth even more special than ever.
I think I also want to post a thought for the day each day this week as well just to make each and everyone think about what is good in our daily lives. We all have struggles and frustrations, but there are also many joys and wonders that can get lost in our day to day struggles. Let's each take time this week to find just one minute in our day to give thanks for something or someone special in your life.

My thought/saying/prayer for today is:
You are the poem I dreamed of writing
the masterpiece I longed to paint.
You are the shining star
I reached for In my
ever hopeful quest
for life fulfilled...
You are my child. Now with all things
I am blessed.
